Meira Epplein, PhD

Dr. Meira Epplein is Co-Leader of the Cancer Risk, Detection, and Interception Program of the Duke Cancer Institute and Professor of Population Health Sciences and Medicine at Duke University. She is a cancer epidemiologist interested in modifiable risk factors in underserved populations, with a focus on the association of infection and cancer. Specifically, her research seeks to further our understanding of the diversity of the bacteria Helicobacter pylori, and host response to infection, and the association with gastrointestinal cancers. She is also involved in local initiatives to understand the prevalence of H. pylori in the community and to explore the opportunities for precision prevention of gastric cancer through targeted H. pylori eradication therapy.
