Grace J. Yoo, PhD, MPH

Professor, San Francisco State University

Grace J. Yoo is a professor and former chair of the  Asian American Studies Department at San Francisco State University. She is a medical sociologist with a background in public health who has spent 30 years researching and teaching about health, illness and social support in the Asian American community Her work has been published in peer reviewed journals such as Journal Cross-Cultural Gerontology, Journal of Gerontology,  Supportive Cancer Care, Ethnicity and Health, and Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health. Professor Yoo also serves as the project director/principal investigator for two Department of Education AANAPISI grants, Asian American and Pacific Islander Retention and Education (ASPIRE) and Responsive Education for Access, Community, and Hope (REACH). She has received numerous awards including the the American Sociological Association Asia/Asian American section Best Book Award for Caring across Generations: The Linked Lives of Korean American families (co-authored with Barbara Kim) and was also a recipient of the Association of Asian American Studies Excellence in Mentorship award.
