Ann Chen, MD

Dr. Chen is the Director of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) and Co-Chief of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. She specializes in pancreaticobiliary disorders and gastrointestinal oncology. She served as Chair of the EUS Scientific Committee of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and has mentored many fellows and residents. In addition, Dr. Chen has worked with medical device companies and helped develop novel tissue biopsy needles for earlier and more accurate diagnosis of solid tumors.

Dr. Chen attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, majoring in molecular biology with a minor in English literature. She received her medical degree with distinction in immunology research from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Chen was also selected as a Howard Hughes Institute Research Fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, where she published several papers on transplant surgery and xenotransplantation. With a strong interest in minimally invasive procedures, she pursued a fellowship in gastroenterology at California Pacific Medical Center and completed an additional year of advanced training in interventional endoscopy at the University of California, Irvine.
