Stanford CARE Team Science Fellowship FAQ
More on our Fellowship Programming and Outcomes
Stanford Team Science Fellows will serve as project mentors for 25 CARE Scholars, in all aspects of their research projects. Ahead of the CARE Scholars summer research immersion, Implementation Science Fellows will receive training on teaching and mentoring techniques; help prepare datasets for analysis; learn about specific analytic techniques to avoid biases in national dataset analysis; participate in an innovation seminar series with leaders in business, technology, medicine, health policy; learn best practices in scientific communication; and prepare to teach/mentor. Each Team Science Fellow will mentor 2 teams of learners on 2 projects per team (total 4 projects), and provide insight/direction to teams on their analysis, presentation and papers for publication. Fellows will meet regularly with the CARE Team Science Program Director to discuss best practices in teaching and mentoring, and to improve their skills as educators.

What is the timeline of the program?
From April to June, Fellows will participate in weekly meetings to prepare for their work over the summer and assess mentorship style. Beginning in June, Fellows will support and have the opportunity to co-facilitate courses in the CARE Scholars 2-week intensive boot camp to learn research fundamentals. During the summer, followed by 9-week research immersion, Fellows will work on 4 research projects (two teams) - some will be large database research focused on precision medicine, and others will be specific mentored research projects with individual faculty. All projects will be mentored by leading Stanford CARE faculty. Beyond the summer intensive (generally concluding in mid-August), Fellows will continue to work with Scholars on publishing their results in academic journals over the next six months. Most teams are predicted to submit 1-2 manuscripts for publication to a peer reviewed journal.
Summer Time Commitment, Location, and Honorariums
Time Commitment
This is a 60% position for the summer research immersion, with the expectation that Fellows will spend 25 hours per week with their mentees on their projects and participate in CARE Scholars course activities during those 10 weeks. Prior to the start of the Summer Research Immersion, Fellows will help with database cleaning and participate in the Innovation Seminar Series. After the Summer Research Immersion, Team Science Fellows will work with their project teams to finalize and submit manuscripts for publication.
